Here’s more on the Lakers:
- Many people in the league assumed Quentin Grimes will enter the regular season in 2026-27 after signing a four-year, $60 million contract with the Lakers in the offseason, writes Benjamin Royer of The Southern California News Group. Instead, he mostly comes off the bench. That changed Wednesday when Doncic went out, and Grimes responded with his best game of the season with 23 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds in 38 minutes in a win over the Clippers. “Each game will have a different scheme, a different game plan, a different move,Grimes said to Royer. But our role won’t change if you stick with it, knowing who you are as a player, trusting your instincts, trusting the game plan, … I’m true to myself and I know what I do best.”
- New owners Josh Kushner and Bob Iger league sources are buying minority stakes in the Lakers in the $250-$300 million range each Ben Horney of Front Office Sports. Horney clarifies that there are expected to be minority shareholders making a much larger financial investment in the Lakers, saying that the $250-300 million range is considered a starting point. It’s not uncommon for new ownership groups to work to sell a minority stake after reaching an agreement to buy a team – Bill ChisholmThe group under management recently did the same with the Celtics, Horney notes.
- Lawson Loveringnew bilateral contract with the Lakers spanning two seasons, Keith Smith by Spotrac tweetsmeaning it will continue through the 2027/28 season unless the big man is promoted or waived by then. The 23-year-old big man spent most of last season — his rookie campaign — in the G League, save for a brief 10-day deal with the Grizzlies in February.
