NFL Draft order: How Jeffery Simmons trade changes first round

The 2026 NFL season has yet to reach the midway point.

But some teams — and their fans — are already thinking about the 2027 NFL Draft.

Until the league descends on the nation’s capital for the annual player entry draft, and until then, there will be plenty — a lot — of mockery of drafts to come. And while the final order for the 2027 NFL Draft is far from over, some teams are already in great position thanks to trades that have already been made.

In fact, three teams (the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans) have multiple picks in the first round of the 2027 NFL Draft.

Will more teams join as we approach the annual trade deadline?

Here’s a look at how the first round looks now, as well as a look at the teams with multiple first-round picks and how they got there.

Current first round order

Keeping in mind that this order has a long way to go, here’s how the first round of the 2027 NFL Draft stacks up:

Choose

group

Record

1 Los Angeles Chargers 0-6
2 Tennessee Titans 1-6
3 Miami Dolphins 1-5
4 Washington commanders 1-4-1
5 Houston Texans 2-5
6 Philadelphia Eagles 2-5
7 New York Jets (via IND) 2-5
8 Arizona Cardinals 2-5
9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2-5
10 New Orleans Saints 2-5
11 New York Jets 2-5
12 New York Jets (via DL) 3-4
13 Las Vegas robbers 3-4
14 Cleveland Browns (via LAR) 3-4
15 Atlanta Hawks 3-4
16 Baltimore Ravens 4-3
17 Seattle Seahawks 4-3
18 The New England Patriots 4-3
19 Carolina Panthers 3-4
20 Dallas Cowboys (via GB) 5-3
21 New York Giants 4-2-1
22 Jacksonville Jaguars 4-2
23 Cincinnati Bengals 4-2
24 Pittsburgh Steelers 5-2
25 Detroit Lions 4-2
26 Cleveland Browns 5-2
27 Denver Broncos 5-2
28 Tennessee Titans (via CHI) 5-2
29 Buffalo Bills 5-1
30 San Francisco 49ers 6-1
31 Kansas City Chiefs 5-1
32 Minnesota Vikings 6-0

Still, this is before all of the games in Week 7 are played, so there’s a long way to go until this order is completed.

But if the draft were held today, the Chargers would have the first pick.

And the Jets will have three in the top 12.

Why the Jets, Browns and Titans Could Dominate the 2027 NFL Draft

Before the NFL’s 2026 trade deadline, three teams — the Jets, Browns and Titans — have multiple first-round picks.

Here’s how I found them.

The Browns currently have a pair of picks in the first round of the 2027 NFL Draft. One is theirs, which Cleveland enters Week 7 with a 5-2 record, 26th for the season.

The other comes from the Los Angeles Rams, courtesy of this summer’s Myles Garrett trade. In this deal, the Browns traded Garrett to the Rams for Jared Vers, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a conditional 2029 round pick (either a third-round pick or a first-round pick if the Rams trade Garrett to a team in the AFC North).

With the Rams entering Week 7 with a 3-4 record, that puts them at 14 for the snap.

Like the Browns, the Titans currently hold a pair of first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. One is their own, which will be number 2 as the Titans etner Week 7 with a 1-6 record.

The other one? That comes from the Chicago Bears, thanks to Thursday’s trade that included defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons. In that deal, the Bears received Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2027 fourth-round pick, and a 2028 first-round pick.

Currently 5-2 in Chicago, the Bears’ pick is currently No. 28.

Then we come to the Jets, who hold three first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft.

One is their own, with New York’s 2-5 record coming in at 11 for the moment.

But their first, at least for now, will be at No. 7 thanks to the Indianapolis Colts. Last season, the Jets traded cornerback Sous Gardner to Indianapolis for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, a 2026 first-round pick (which the Jets used to draft tight end Kenyon Sadiq at No. 16) and a 2027 first-round pick.

Then their third pick, at least temporarily, comes from the Dallas Cowboys.

And this needs a little explanation.

The Jets also traded defensive lineman Mazzie Smith for a 2026 second-round pick (the Jets also traded No. 50 and No. 128 to the Detroit Lions last year) and defensive tackle Quinn Williams for a 2027 first-round pick to Dallas.

But that trade happened in November in a preseason trade involving Micah Parsons. In the year In August 2025, the Cowboys sent Parsons to the Packers for Kenny Clark, a 2026 first-round pick (which Dallas traded to the Philadelphia Eagles) and a 2027 first-round pick.

Back to the Jets and Cowboys trade, the Jets will receive either the Cowboys own first round pick, or the pick Dallas received from Green Bay, whichever is better.

The Cowboys are currently 3-4 and the Packers are 5-3 after Thursday night’s win against the Carolina Panthers. So if the 2027 NFL Draft were held today, the Jets’ third pick would be the Cowboys’ own pick at No. 12, and Dallas would be on the clock with Green Bay’s pick at No. 20.
