Top Dodgers prospect Josue De Paula spoke ahead of his highly anticipated Major League debut after receiving a surprise call-up directly from Double-A.
“You’re going with the big dogs.”
De Paula revealed that he was sitting in front of his locker when his manager called him into the office and delivered the life-changing news. Initially in disbelief, De Paula immediately called his mother and father—and said they were “happier than ever.”
The young Dodgers outfielder discussed:
His stunned reaction to being called up
Going directly from Double-A to the Major Leagues
Calling his parents with the exciting news
Having approximately 15 family members attend his debut
Learning from Dodgers stars during Spring Training
Jason Heyward’s influence as a mentor
Improving defensively throughout the season
Adjustments that helped his swing
Feeling relieved after remaining with the Dodgers at the trade deadline
Preparing to serve as a designated hitter
His opportunity to earn postseason consideration
De Paula said he plans to remain focused on the present and compete with the same aggressive mentality that helped him reach the Major Leagues.
“Whoever’s on the mound, I’m looking to take their head off. I just love competing.”
