Shohei Ohtani is out of the Dodgers lineup again, one day after returning from a four-game break.
Dave Roberts explained that Ohtani came out of his return feeling well, but the Dodgers and their training staff decided to build him back up slowly.
Roberts discussed:
Why Ohtani is sitting again
Ohtani’s availability off the bench
His expected return to the lineup tomorrow
How much better Ohtani feels physically
The possibility of additional rest days
Managing his workload more proactively
Whether the Dodgers still view him as a two-way player
Ohtani’s desire to play for fans who travel to see him
The latest updates on Roki Sasaki and Edwin Díaz
Roberts said Ohtani feels “considerably better” and showed encouraging progress by catching up to a 99 mph fastball during his return.
The manager emphasized that the decision was not caused by a new setback. The Dodgers are attempting to get Ohtani as close to 100 percent as possible before the postseason.
“He’ll be available in a big spot tonight. He’ll be in there tomorrow.”
