The feud between the undisputed WWE Champion and former Honorable Usa – Sami Zayn carrying the Crown Jewel against World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns was fantastic. The champions make the title fight personal meaningless, and it made their fight for Saturday’s Crown Jewel championship.
On Monday night, Reigns further discredited Zayn and what he has done since leaving Bloodline. In his very high and mighty Reigns fashion, he said that if he never brought Zayn to Bloodline, he wouldn’t be making millions of dollars every year and he certainly wouldn’t be champion right now. I really liked the fact that Reigns brought up Zayn’s WWE WrestleMania 38 match against Johnny Knoxville here by saying “when I found you, you were just Johnny Knoxville’s little b****” which showed what I thought was Zayn’s perfect response. It also brought something a little new and very specific in this promo segment.
Zayn said that while no one forgot his match against Knoxville at ‘Mania 38, they forgot who Reigns was with and he was in the main event. Totally true, at least for me, and I loved that line. He took it a step further and said the most memorable thing Reigns has done in the last five years is “hit the chair” and it was Zayn swinging it. While not exactly true, Zayn had similar fire throughout this promo, but it was believable.
While I’m not the biggest fan of his heel persona, Zayn can cut one hell of a heel, and I thought it tipped to the face honestly. He said no one can take credit for his championship win and he won’t be respected by Reigns, the fans or anyone. He also said he deserved Reigns’ undivided attention because The Chieftain was currently distracted by the 946 as well, and he was going to get it one way or another.
That led to the closing moment of the night, where Zayn came out after the 946 hit the Bloodline and delivered a Helluva Kick to Reigns. I loved how that line came back and it made a lot of sense as Zayn would want to give Reigns a good shot ahead of the match on Saturday.
I love how WWE made me care about the Crown Jewel match because Reigns and especially Zayn are both great promos. It’s hot enough to the point where I wish Zane was somehow involved in WarGames, but the feud is also good enough that it can be put on the back burner and heated up again at some point soon.
