Rood, ranked 23rd, earned his first win at the event since 2022, ending a four-match losing streak in Paris. Their score was tied at 2-2. Cherundolo had beaten him in both quarterfinals in Gstaad, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in 2025 and 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 this year. Rood won their other meeting in Montreal in August 6-1, 6-2.
Rudd holds all nine service games against Cerundolo
Rudd converted three of his five break points and won 82% of his serve points. He scored a game-winning 27 to Cerundolo’s 12 and had 10 of his 11 points in net.
The 54th-ranked Cherundolo committed five double faults, four of them in the second set. His performance in Paris completed a string of main draw appearances at all nine Masters 1000 events.
Rudd reached the final in Rome and the quarter-finals in Madrid and Shanghai this season.
