Harry Wilson dreamed of Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 for some time, eager to see the sports-mad nation fall behind the Wallabies when the tournament returns to Australia for the first time in 24 years.

Wilson, who made his debut for the Wallabies six years ago, has proven to be a passionate captain of the side, who will help kick off the World Cup in 11 months’ time. The Wallabies will face soon-to-be World Cup debutants Hong Kong China at Perth Stadium on 1 October 2027.

World Rugby celebrated its one-year milestone in Sydney last month, with the Harbor Bridge and Sydney Opera House providing a picturesque backdrop to the fan event, held right by the water at First Fleet Park.

It is reported that fans from 164 countries have bought 1.3 million tickets and that more than 250,000 international fans are expected. The 52 World Cup matches will be played over six weeks in seven host cities, including key knockout matches in Sydney and Brisbane.

Wilson and the Wallabies played their last home match of the year at Bledisloe II and have since flown north for their spring tour, but the players are also thinking about the prospect of representing Australia at the World Cup on home soil.

“This 2027 World Cup is something I’ve dreamed about for a long time,” said Wilson Hi Sport.

“I remember many of us in 2020 signing long contracts for the ’23 World Cup, with this World Cup in the background.

“It’s getting closer now and it’s something I can’t wait to be a part of. I can’t wait to see Australia behind us and everyone talking about rugby and everyone seeing how great our global game is.”

“A lot of people are going to be surprised at how incredible it is. Having that support at home is going to be special and we’ve just got to keep building this next month to make sure we’re ready next year.”

It’s another big event on home soil for the Wallabies, who welcome the British and Irish Lions to Australia last year. The Lions secured a 2-1 Test series victory, but the Wallabies escaped 22-12 at Accor Stadium in Sydney.

Sydney Stadium, also known as Stadium Australia, will host the 2027 World Cup bronze final on November 12 and the final on November 13. The two quarter-finals and both semi-finals will also be held at the 80,000-seat Colosseum.

“It’s going to be like (the Lions series) but times five. It’s unbelievable,” added Wilson.

“My family always go to the World Cup; they are big fans and they said how amazing the others were.”
