Matt Renshaw continued to take center stage as Australia inched closer to winning the first Test against South Africa in Durban.
Renshaw added a second knock of 82 to his in-form 190 and it wasn’t over there. After Australia declared with a lead of 420, the occasional off-spinner took his first Test wicket as the Proteas worked to 102-4.
South African captain Temba Bavuma was his victim, caught on bat and pad by Nic Maddinson for just one. Josh Hazlewood had already taken the ball, dismissing Ryan Rickelton and David Bedingham, with Pat Cummins adding Tristan Stubbs before the close on day four.
Aiden Markram will resume on 45, not out alongside Wiaan Mulder, but the odds are stacked against the hosts saving the match on day five. Australia were without the brilliance of Steve Smith in the slips after he was hit on the helmet by Anrich Nortje and was subsequently replaced on the field pending further assessments.
More to come…
