Broncos right guard Quinn Meinerz celebrates with Jaylen Waddle after the wide receiver’s 2-point conversion on Sunday. He playfully “mounted” to offer his congratulations, and then his teammates rolled the die in pantomime.
“I have been fined,” Meinerz told 9News’ Mike Klis. “We were playing Yahtzee. They didn’t like that we were playing Yahtzee.”
In 2017, the NFL announced that it had no problem with the celebratory dice roll. A spokesman at the time said the league was “not in a position to determine” whether the players were referring to Yahtzee or backgammon.
The league fined Meinerz $14,926 for what the league deemed an illegal celebration. It appears the NFL has fined Waddle the same amount.
Meinerz said he will appeal.
After the Broncos’ second 2-point conversion, Meinerz lifted Pat Bryant II off the ground with a two-arm, elbow shake.
“It’s nice to be back to where I am and I can breathe. I can see, I feel good about life and where things are,” Meinerz said. “So when I have the opportunity to use more of that energy to go celebrate with my teammates, why not? It’s hard to score, have fun with it.”
