Harlequins have confirmed that highly-rated scrum-half Lucas Friday is among the top three youngsters who have pledged their future to the club by signing long-term deals to stay at The Stoop.
RugbyPass announced in August that England The U20 scrum-half has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal until 2029, with the club now saying he has been joined by Elliot Williams and Tate Williams in pledging their futures to the quarters.
Friday, 20, who was a Junior World Cup winner two years ago, has become a key player for Quins, notably playing 80 minutes in Harlequins’ memorable away win over La Rochelle in the Champions Cup.
Lock Elliott Williams, 19, was part of the England squad that lost the bronze final at the Rugby World Junior Championship last summer and made 12 appearances for the club’s first team last season.
No.8 Tate Williams, second England U20 international, was part of Bath The university’s BUCS Super Rugby team won the treble in 2026 and made two appearances in the PREM Rugby Cup last season.
Quins boss Jason Gilmore has admitted that the most successful teams in the club’s history have been led by home-grown players, and that is something they are aiming to do again.
“I picture them as they’re going to be, you know, two, three or four years from now. Hopefully they’re on a team that’s consistently winning. We’re winning trophies, and they’re going to play a very strong role in that.”
“Something that has been strongly driven from the board down is that we want a home team. And with the nursery we have, we have no excuse not to keep our best players and get them there.”
“And we’ve got to be brave to get them out quickly, which I think we’re doing at the moment. And then if you’re going to go beyond that, then you want to bring in people who are the best in the competition, like George Furbank,” Gilmore told RugbyPass.
