On Saturday afternoon, Eilis Cahill, Brittany Hogan, Neve Jones, Anna McGann, Beibhinn Parsons, Alana McInerney and Sophie Barrett all crossed the whitewash at Virgin Media Park to claim an impressive win.
Winning means that Ireland have now won two of their three matches so far this fall. Their last game against Japan was played away WXV Global Series window, just a week after they beat Sakura Fifteen 31-24 in Galway.
To begin their WXV Global Series campaign, Ireland surrendered a 19-point lead against USA Women’s Eagles in Dublin and lost 40-36.
Now Ireland head coach Scott Bemand will prepare his squad for the two-month WXV Global Series clash with the Springbok Women.
“Having a two-and-a-half-week tour of Africa is well-placed at the right time for us,” full-time Bemand said on Saturday.
“We got some learnings from some of the last three weeks that we have to take over there to a completely different physical challenge. But in two weeks we’ll be ready.”
With Ireland’s win, Wales have regained 11th place in the World Rugby rankings.
Three weeks ago, Wales took that position thanks to a 50-19 win against the Springbok Women in the first game of the WXV Global Series of the autumn before being replaced by Japan in 12th place.
In their second match against Ireland, the Sakura Fifteen could move up to their joint all-time record of 10th in the standings with a win of 15 points or more in Cork.
Ahead of the game, Ireland could not progress further than fifth in the rankings.
elsewhere, South Africa failed to move up to 10th in the world rugby rankings with a 20-0 win against Spain in Seville.
