New York Notes: Brown, Demin, Jent, Knicks Stocks

The Networks had assets to acquire Jaylen Brown from the Celtics before he went to the Sixers. However, Brooklyn didn’t want the All-Star forward, Brian Lewis of the New York Post reports (subscription required).

The Celtics approached the Nets about a potential deal for Brown, and he was more than willing to join the Nets. However, Brooklyn decided not to pursue him.

Despite the link notices Michael Porter Jr, Day Ron Sharp and draft assets for a potential trade with Brown, the Nets passed on Brown. Brooklyn’s management was concerned that Brown would be a distraction, similar to the problems the Nets had Kyrie Irving while working for the organization. Brown and Irving are close friends.

“They weren’t short,” A source told Lewis. “They just shut it down altogether. They just said, ‘We’re not interested.'”

Here’s more on the New York teams:

  • Networks security guard Yehor Demin left Tuesday’s overtime loss to Boston early with a right leg contusion. 10 minutes before departure, Demin scored two points and two assists.
  • Nix assistant coach Chris Gent will be absent from the team for an unknown period of time due to personal reasons, according to the Jared Schwartz and Stefan Bondi of the New York Post. Gent is the assistant head coach in charge of the offense under Mike Brown. He hasn’t been benched in the last three games, including their win over the Pistons on Tuesday. Assistant TJ Saint filled his role at the front of the bench during that period.
  • The Nix and the NHL’s New York Rangers were officially split into two separate publicly traded companies, MSG Sports, Mike Varkunov from Atlético. reports. Both franchises will continue under management James Dolan as their CEO and Executive Chairman. The G League’s Knicks and Westchester Knicks are now owned by the MSG Knickerbockers Corp., while the Rangers, the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack and the MSG practice facility are owned by the MSG Rangers Corp. The Knicks’ stock is worth roughly $300 apiece.
