Eagles vs Commanders Odds, expert picks, team and player news, betting trends, and stats

The NFC East is up for grabs and just because you’re at the bottom of the standings in Week 8 doesn’t mean you can’t win the division! That’s the mindset surrounding the Washington Commanders (1-4-1) as they host the Philadelphia Eagles (2-5) on NBC and Peacock for Sunday Night Football.

Washington is coming off a bye week, which will likely be spent plotting how the Commanders can make a run at a wild division. The Commanders lone win came against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, which makes perfect sense (sarcasm detected). Washington is 0-4 and averaging 21.5 points per game Jayden Daniels‘ starts this season.

Over the last two plays, the Commanders went down six on a fourth-and-three at the 17-yard line and failed to convert to knock off the 49ers on Monday Night Football in Week 6. In Week 5, the Commanders had a bonehead that ended in OT and tied the Giants. Washington might have entered this game on a two-game winning streak and 3-1 in its last four games, but And Quinn there were one or two errors in the coach’s decisions.

Philadelphia has lost five straight games, and only two of those losses have come by one possession. The Eagles haven’t lost six games in a row since 2012, so we’re living in unprecedented times. Tanner McKee will get another start at quarterback after posting 426 yards and two touchdowns to one interception. Saquon Barkley has another questionable tag with his hamstring injury after hauling in seven carries for 62 yards and a touchdown against Dallas. The Eagles lost DeVonta Smith AND Dontayvion Wicks last week, but Lemon police scored his first touchdown and had a career-high seven catches and 67 yards. The Eagles’ defense gave up a season-high 38 points and couldn’t stop the Cowboys’ rushing attack (38 carries, 204 yards, 1 TD). Philadelphia beat Washington 24-22 in Week 1 as Jayden Daniels failed to convert a two-point conversion with 1:01 left in the game. Commanders covered, and Over struck. Let’s see what happens this time!

Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find an extra sweat or two.

Eagles at Commanders expert picks and predictions

Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) likes the Commanders to cover -5.5:

“I was very surprised to find out that Washington is 11-3-1 in the ML as a favorite And Quinn. That leads the NFL since 2024, and their 9-6-1 ATS mark is sixth best in that span. Commanders have been very profitable as favorites since Quinn and Jayden Daniels took over, and they have been a weakling. The Eagles are in shambles, and new names are popping up on the injury report every week. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Washington rally and win the NFC East, though I’d put my money on the Cowboys on that one. I love Washington getting covered at home.”

Cowboys at Eagles quarterback matchup

· Washington: Jayden Daniels – In Jayden DanielsThrough four starts this season, Washington is 0-4 and averaging 21.5 points per game. Daniels has totaled seven touchdowns to zero interceptions through four games and almost 1,000 yards passing and rushing. Daniels has been at his best under pressure. Daniels has a completion percentage of 63.0% under pressure (4th best) and 60.5% when hit (19th) compared to 63.7% in a clean pocket (26th). Daniels has been better against zone than man coverage, posting a 19% higher completion percentage (72.5 vs. 53.2) and a 4.0-point difference in passer rating (100.0 vs. 96.0). Philly ranks in the middle of the NFL in terms of frequency of man and zone coverage. Daniels is 1-3 against Philadelphia in his career and has a 9:4 TD-to-INT ratio (5-TD game in 2024).

· Philadelphia: Tanner McKee – Tanner McKee turned in another performance similar to his first start: 200 passing yards and a touchdown. The injured Eagles are all over the field and most of the playmakers have been absent. McKee could be without Barkley, Smith and Wicks this week on the road in back-to-back weeks. It’s not a recipe for success under the bright lights. Through two games, McKee has a 40% play-action completion percentage (34th) and 68.1% true completion percentage (25th). With a clean pocket, McKee has a completion percentage of 63.5% (26th) as his supporting cast ranks 24th in efficiency. It will be difficult to succeed without pace because of all the injuries.
