The Rams looked like Super Bowl contenders Monday night against the Giants, a significant improvement from their Week 1 loss to the 49ers in Australia. Rams coach Sean McVay blamed the Rams’ much-hyped travel plans and himself for the Week 1 loss.
McVay was asked after the win over the Giants why the Rams looked so different than they did in Australia, and McVay said it was largely down to his decision to arrive in Australia just a day before the game.
“Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn and sometimes you have a stupid coach that makes travel plans that put you in bad spots,” McVay said.
The Rams’ decision to arrive in Australia only about 24 hours before kick-off was an attempt not to adjust to the time difference at all. The 49ers arrived in Australia a week early and were well acclimatised. The 49ers won 27-7 and the Rams’ travel schedule has been heavily scrutinized.
McVay took the blame for not having his team ready to play in Australia, but they were more than ready to play in Los Angeles on Monday night, winning 28-6.
