Warriors a great man Kristaps Porzingis will remain indefinitely due to undisclosed health issues, according to reports team press release.
Porzingis missed training camp and the team’s first five preseason games due to health issues. On Tuesday, he returned to the Warriors practice facility and met with the Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy and Vice President of Player Health and Performance, Dr. Rick Celebrini. The details of this meeting are not disclosed in the club.
Porzingis will remain with the team and an update on his status, including a potential resumption of practice, game status or schedule, will be provided when available and needed, the team added.
Porzingis issued a statement on social media right after the Warriors release, stating “Hi, I am working with doctors and experts to figure out how to get back to full health as soon as possible. To be honest, I’m getting better and better. I just need to be patient and I believe I will feel great again soon. It’s definitely been frustrating throughout my career to deal with some health issues that you can’t really pinpoint, on top of injuries, so that’s definitely added up, but we’ll get through it. Health is wealth. Thanks for all the support.”
Porzingis signed a two-year extension at the end of June. He will make $20 million this season and has a $20 million option for 2027/28, though only $3 million is guaranteed. Golden State will have until July 7, 2027, to waive him next offseason.
Porzingis has battled a number of injuries and illnesses throughout his career. He was still very effective last season when he played — the Warriors were 6.4 points per 100 possessions better when he was on the court, and that number was even higher (7.8 points per 100 possessions) during his time in Atlanta.
In 32 games for the Hawks and Warriors last season, Porzingis averaged 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 blocks on .446/.338/.842 shooting in just 24 minutes per contest. Golden State acquired Porzingis in February in a trade that sent Jonathan Cuminga and Buddy Hield this is atlanta.
If he is not available to start the season, the team will have to hope Draymond Green as an undersized center backed by a 40-year-old Al Horford unless the front office decides to make a roster move.
