An encouraging sight for Nuggets there was health in Sunday’s win over Chicago Aaron Gordon, By Vinnie Bendetta of The Denver Gazette writes in history only for subscribers. The veteran forward is coming off an injury-plagued year throughout the regular season and playoffs, but he appears to be back to 100%. Gordon finished with 25 points and six rebounds in 23 minutes, connecting on 9 of 12 from the field and 3 of 4 from 3-point range.
“I’m not a doctor, but he seems to be doing well” coach David Adelman said. “It was good to see him come through the run in the third quarter with confidence, not just because he was making shots. I just thought he played at a good pace in the third quarter. He got to the rim a few times, which means he really has to step up. That was really good to see.”
Benedetto explains that Gordon has changed his routine after playing just 36 games last season and three in the first round of the playoffs. He now arrives at the arena earlier on game days, which gives him more time to prepare, and stays later.
“It’s smoother. I feel better there.” said Gordon. “It’s all about more prolonged stretching, more concentrated effort, just more warming up and cooling down the body.”
More on the Nuggets:
- DeMar DeRozanThe transition to a new team continues to feel awkward, he notes Bennett Durando of The Denver Post. DeRozan was signed this summer to score and play off the bench, but has struggled in that role during his first three preseason appearances. He missed all four of his shots Sunday and failed to match his isolation style with Denver’s regular offense. Durando also says Adelman used his starters in the second half Sunday because they want more playing time together after injuries derailed last season.
- The Nuggets are counting Julian Strother take over Tim Hardaway JrBenedetto notes in a a separate story. The fourth-year guard is ready, says he’s trying to be less “chaotic” on the court. “That’s all I’ve heard all summer is just looking for ways to replicate Tim’s production, what he’s been able to do for us. He’s obviously had a great year.” Strother said. “We’re obviously missing that. We have to fill that void.”
- Alpha DialThe 29-year-old rookie, who spent the last five seasons in Europe, hopes to bring his reputation as a defender to the NBA, adds Benedetto another piece. Diallo was recognized as the best defender of the Euroleague last season as part of Monaco. “Whoever I’m assigned to protect at this time, if they don’t know who I am, I hope they find out soon.” he said.
