I tried to ask this question during this week’s mailbag, but I didn’t get it in time, so I thought I’d post it here for discussion:
Alexa Grasso will be fighting this weekend. In her last outing, she had arguably one of the best finishes (against Maycee Barber) in the history of women’s combat sports. I like to think of it as the female equivalent of Ray Borg finishing Demetrious Johnson – his transition from dismemberment to submission was flawless, textbook. Definition of killer instinct. But it got me thinking: Grasso is not someone who will end up in the Hall of Fame. Is the fate of that finish, the height it will be remembered for, simply a UFC highlight reel? Or instead, if the UFC Hall of Fame were to have a “Greatest Finishes Wing” similar to its “Fight Wing,” only those fights would honor both fighters, and the finishers’ wing would only honor the finisher.
Any thoughts? Think Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort (or Forrest Griffin or Stephan Bonnar). These fights don’t necessarily deserve a spot on Fight Wing, but are they in the finish line?
