In a matter of days, former AEW star “Platinum” Max Custer went from wrestling free agent to borderline persona non grata. due to his controversial rap at TNA Bound for Glory. A few days later, Custer apologized and will be revealed later he would take a break from wrestling. And while that sparked some skepticism from some fans, Custer stands by it, revealing as much. K&S WrestleFest virtual signature when asked if there was a chance he would return to AEW one day.
“It’s wrestling, right?” Custer said. “Never say never. However, I say now to non-wrestling bookings and it will be a wrestling booking. So I don’t know.”
Custer then clarified that his appearance at the virtual signing would be his last wrestling-related appearance, and that he was only doing so because he had agreed to do so prior to the TNA incident and felt obligated to do so for those under signing. He gave no indication of how long the break would last or when he might return.
While this is the end for now, Custer begins his hiatus knowing that he’s had an eventful, if semi-polar, career that may be remembered in large part for his rap performances, which have at times been praised and derided. In addition, Custer will also be remembered for his tag team The Acclaimed with Anthony Bowens, which saw the duo capture the AEW World Tag Team Championship in 2022 and the AEW World Trios Championship with Billy Gunn in 2023. Bowens’ contract with AEW expired in early Octoberalthough Custer expressed skepticism in this virtual signing that Bowens had left AEW.
