The Baltimore Ravens wasted no time fixing their quarterback woes, with the team coming to terms with Jacoby Brissett, who began the season as the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals.
Brissett had a strong start to the season before beginning to regress to average with the rest of the Cardinals organization. He posted 1,719 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in eight starts. Those stats are a little better than they look on paper, considering all three of Brissett’s picks came in one horrible Week 4 game against the Giants.
What we don’t know now is what the crows left behind. Where this is an inconvenient issue. Adam Schefter is reporting that the trade won’t take place until the weekend. The Ravens are playing. Thursday night footballSo instead rate this based on the business – we’re looking at different requirements for both groups. As we learn more about the deal itself, we’ll follow up.
Brissett is the best fit the Ravens can get.
Brissett is far from an ideal quarterback, but this is a solid fit for the Ravens. What you need at this point is someone who can take care of the football and spread the field to create pressure from inside the box so Derrick Henry has more free running room. Brissett can do any of these things perfectly.
There’s no question that Brissett didn’t play error-free football in Arizona, but the Cardinals also didn’t have any real weapons outside of tight ends Trey McBride and Michael Wilson, both of whom work best on intermediate routes. Having the best passing TE in football certainly helps and hurts him, but the lack of an outside threat to stretch the field deep has created a problem the Cardinals have been unable to solve.
Reversible in Baltimore. Zay Flowers is an excellent pass catcher who can serve as the Ravens’ No. 1 target, and Rashod Bateman is someone who works best on deep routes. Both receivers Average More than 15 yards-per-reception from Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley under center, and that should continue with Brissett.
Perhaps, most importantly, Baltimore found the best low-cost solution to their massive QB problem and a thin market. Teams still in need of QBs will either have to try to convince quarterbacks to give up Kirk Cousins (which won’t be easy against Las Vegas at 4-4), or they’ll have to make a dramatic move to the next level of quarterbacks, which includes the likes of Joe Flacco, Tyson Bagent and Tua Tagovailoa.
In short: The Ravens didn’t get the perfect solution, but they got the best guy they could have now without compromising their future.
Cardinals do well in accepting their future
I’m a self-confessed bully for a team, which is why I love this deal for Arizona — no matter what. Brissett was on a one-year deal, so this is about getting something for nothing, as well as pushing their agenda forward as they evaluate their future.
No one thinks Gardner Minshew will be the starter for the rest of the season in Arizona. It’s clear the team is motivated to give him a few games and then start evaluating Carson Beck as he prepares to step in and get back up to speed. That’s the right move for a team drafting in the top 10 and awaiting a QB decision in the 2027 draft.
Keeping Brissett was a worthwhile expense that did nothing for them. At this time, he did not think about their future, nor should he have. This will allow Brissett to make an impact for a team that hopes to make the playoffs, while the Cardinals can continue their rebuild, which is ahead of schedule as Arizona is more competitive than most give them credit for this season.
