The upcoming game between the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks has a little more meaning to the outcome of Week 8. While the Cardinals won in overtime against the Dallas Cowboys to improve to 3-5, the Seahawks fell to 4-4 with a loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night.
That means there’s a world where the Super Bowl champions could be in last place in the NFC West Tuesday morning, depending on how this game goes, as well as the Los Angeles Rams’ game against the Washington Chiefs.
And now, the Seahawks will likely be without their starting quarterback for the game.
Seattle head coach Mike McDonald confirmed Wednesday that Sam Darnold suffered a quad injury in the loss to the Bears and will be sidelined for Week 8. Drew Lock will now start in his place.
As part of Seattle’s emergency third quarter against Chicago last week, Locke is dealing with his own injury situation. The backup is managing an elbow injury in his throwing arm, and was inactive for Seattle’s Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
When Darnold was injured earlier in the season, Locke stepped in and helped the Seahawks get off to a 2-0 start. He came in for an injured Darnold in Week 1 and completed 16-of-22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown as Seattle came back to beat the New England Patriots in a Super Bowl 60 rematch. Then he started — against the Cardinals — and completed 19-of-26 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in Seattle’s 31-7 win over Arizona.
