Both Ravens running back Derrick Henry and Bills quarterback Josh Allen have scored six rushing touchdowns in three games. Each of them has a chance to tie the record for most touchdowns in the first four games of a season, according to NBC Sports research.
The current mark is nine, shared by Hall of Famer Jim Brown (1958), Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith (1995) and Stephen Davis (1999).
So that’s three to tie and four to beat the record.
Henry’s opportunity comes in his first game against his former team, the Titans. Allen’s is coming off the first home game in the new Buffalo Stadium against their biggest rivals, the Patriots.
If Henry scores at least two, he will move into fourth place on the all-time hit list. He is tied with Hall of Famer Randy Moss at 37 such games. Smith had 39, Hall of Famer LaDanian Tomlinson had 44 and Hall of Famer Jerry Rice had 46.
A pair of rushing touchdowns would also enable Henry to match Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk (Colts and Rams) and Hall of Famer Marcus Allen (Raiders and Chiefs) with 40 or more rushing touchdowns with multiple teams.
There are many Hall of Famers mentioned in this speech. Inevitably, Henry and Allen will have this distinction attached to their names as well.
