Andrade The Idol can have successfully defended his AEW National Championship against Tommaso Ciampa at AEW WrestleDreambut the talk of their match was less about the outcome and more about the pants. Not only did the match see Andrade remove his ring pants, which had become a staple of his act, but Ciampa countered by grabbing his own wrestling trunks to reveal another pair, after which he attacked and even attempted to kick Andrade’s pants. The comedy clip has received mixed reviews from many watching at home, but that’s not what matters most to Jeff Jarrett. Site analysis “My World” Jarrett talked about the positive crowd reception he received at the venue and countered the idea that comedy wrestling doesn’t make money.
“It’s funny, don’t draw money, it’s kind of situational… I just don’t think you can draw… creativity is subjective,” Jarrett said. “Period, just period. But here’s the thing… Look I’ve had a long career so I’ve been a part of Saturday Morning Memphis TV in addition to Superstars and Challenge and Raw and Nitro and Thunder and Worldwide and Impact and we could go on.
“And when you have a live, quote, focus group, for the most part, they’re going to tell you, ‘Did it work or not?’ Conrad, you had a live studio audience watching, but we also had, I don’t know what it was, 7 or 8K in the financial arena. Did you hear the feedback? So I just think and understand that to each their own. It’s not for everyone.”
Despite the controversy, Andrade and Ciampa’s problems don’t seem to be over. since Ciampa attacked Andrade last Saturday at Collision before Andrade’s stablemate “Speedball” Mike Bailey was stopped. As such, it appears the two have another match on the horizon, as well as another opportunity to use Andrade’s pants for comedic effect.
