Jair Cunha stunned Manchester City with a goal after six minutes to fire Nottingham Forest into a 1-0 lead in their Premier League clash at the City Ground on Saturday evening.
The Brazilian defender capitalized on a costly error from Josko Gvardiol to give Oliver Glasner’s side the perfect start against Enzo Maresca’s title rivals.
Gvardiol was caught in possession by Cunha, who stole the ball from the City defender before breaking into the penalty area.
With no City players able to close him down, the 21-year-old kept his composure and calmly fired a left-footed finish into the bottom-left corner past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
It was a remarkable start for the hosts, who had failed to score a single Premier League goal at the City Ground this season before Cunha’s breakthrough.
The goal was particularly significant for Forest, who entered the competition sitting 19th in the Premier League table after a difficult few months to start the campaign.
Glasner’s men had lost four of their previous five league games and were desperate for their first home win of the season.
City, meanwhile, arrived in Nottingham looking to avoid a third straight Premier League defeat after suffering setbacks against Aston Villa and Brighton.
