Denver would love to acquire a veteran tight end before Tuesday’s trade deadline, but that tight end likely won’t be Arizona’s Trey McBride.
The Broncos have reached out to multiple teams about potential tight ends they could trade for, and that included the Cardinals, who told the Broncos they were not interested in trading McBrideaccording to ESPN.
McBride is 26 years old and under contract through 2029, so it’s no surprise the Cardinals see him as part of their future, though there’s never any harm in a GM calling another to see if a player is available. If the Broncos thought there was any chance they could get him, it was smart to ask.
Broncos tight end Evan Engram has just 13 catches for 136 yards this season. Sean Payton would like to get more production from the tight end position than that. It won’t be a surprise if several other teams with veteran tight ends potentially available hear from the Broncos between now and Tuesday.
