49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has started three games this season, thrown 83 passes and has yet to be sacked.
That’s a rare feat: The 49ers are just the fourth team since 1990 to allow zero sacks through three games in a season, joining Andy Dalton with the Bengals in 2014, and Peyton Manning with the Colts in 1999 and again in 2005.
Purdy has done a great job this season of understanding where the pass rush is coming from and getting rid of the ball quickly, and he’s also taken down the run when pressured. Through 10 games this season, Purdy has 93 rushing yards and eight first downs. Purdy is leading the league with nine touchdown passes and a 133.1 passer rating and has climbed to No. 2 in MVP odds.
Next up for the 49ers is a game against the Broncos, who led the NFL in sacks last year and are tied for seventh in the league in sacks this year. Continuing to avoid the pass rush will be a key to Purdy’s quest to lead the 49ers to a 4-0 start.
