Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has faced the Bengals three times in his NFL career, and none of those contests ended in a Jacksonville victory.
The Bengals won at home by a field goal in Lawrence’s rookie season in a game best remembered as the one followed by then-head coach Urban Meyer staying behind to have a little fun at a local bar instead of traveling home with his team. The Bengals won in overtime behind Jake Browning in 2023, and Browning came in to win again after Joe Burrow was hurt late in last season’s game in Cincinnati.
Those results make the Bengals the only AFC team Lawrence hasn’t beaten since entering the league as the first overall pick in 2021, and he admitted it’s something he’s aware of during a news conference Wednesday.
“We have to make the turn I have to go get it” Lawrence said. “It’s definitely something that, when you’re coming into the game, you think about. You haven’t been sitting there thinking about it every second of the day and all week, but I have. It’s a team we haven’t beaten. We lost a tough one there early in the season last year and that’s one we definitely want to bounce back from. All those things you think about and move on. You have to put your energy into something that actually does something for you, which is getting ready and getting ready to go.”
Both teams are 2-1 heading into Sunday’s game, so it’s an opportunity for the Jags to make an early run in the AFC playoff race in addition to making Lawrence a clean sweep of the conference.
