Two-time MVP Stephen Curry signed the contract extension, Art Warriors declared (via Twitter).

We’ve been incredibly blessed to experience 17 years of Stephen’s mastery and are thrilled that our fans will continue to be able to watch him perform and write more chapters to his illustrious story.”
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania (Link to Twitter), who first reported the news, Curry signed a two-year, $116 deal with a player option for the 2028/29 season. This is $20.7 million less than the maximum ($136.7 million) that Curry could have received.
The 12-time All-Star guard will make $62.6 million this season and $55.7 million in 2027-28, the first season of his new extension. The Warriors could create a significant amount of cap space next summer Yossi Gozlan of CapSheets.comthough exactly how much space will depend on several factors, including player options Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton.
Curry will likely face a six-month trade restriction as a result of the deal, according to Gozlan (via Twitter), meaning he will remain a Warrior until the end of February. There was never any doubt about Curry’s place on the roster, but still.
According to Marks, the extension would make Curry the first player in NBA history to surpass $600 million in on-court earnings (Link to Twitter). Kevin Durant and LeBron James both are just below that threshold.
Curry became eligible to sign an extension on August 29. Reporting indicated in recent weeks that the Warriors were willing to give the 38-year-old any one- or two-year deal he wanted to sign. Curry’s contract was limited to two years due to the over-38 rule.
Curry’s contract comes just days before Monday’s media day. Golden State practice begins Tuesday in Hawaii. ESPN’s Anthony Slater assumed earlier that the situation will be resolved before training camp.
While Curry was limited to just 43 regular season contests last season due to a knee injury, he continued to perform at a high level when available, averaging 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals on .468/.393/.912 shooting in 30.9 minutes per game. The four-time champion holds the NBA records for three-pointers made, three-pointers made in a game and three-pointers attempted in a game, and his career free throw percentage of .912 is the highest in league history.
