With the Seahawks thin on the run Sunday, they put receiver Rashid Shaheed in the backfield.
He had two carries for 33 yards, including a 28-yard run.
It wasn’t something the Seahawks prepared for this week, with Jadarian Price on injured reserve and Zach Charbonnet still not far from a torn ACL he suffered in January.
“We’ve had that all (training) camp,” coach Mike Macdonald told reporters Monday. “That’s not a quote from (offensive coordinator Brian) Fleury, but it felt appropriate because (Price) was down, he gave us some speed. It was nice.”
It really was. The game scored by Shaheed highlighted his speed and agility on the broken pitch. He is a player who can make things happen with the ball in his hands. The more the Seahawks do that, the better they will be.
Through four games in 2026, Shaheed has seven catches for 73 yards and three carries for 37 yards, plus Sunday’s touchdown. He has returned nine punts for 79 yards and 10 punts for 273 yards.
That’s good. But he needs to get the ball more often.
With the Seahawks adding veteran running back Joe Mixon to the practice squad and signing Robert Henry Jr.’s comeback. from the Commanders’ practice squad, Shaheed may not be part of the running game Sunday against the 49ers — even if he should be.
