A joint letter from the five major professional sports leagues in the United States to state officials calls for new anti-cheat laws and penalties for anyone caught abusing athletes, coaches, officials or their families.
All five of these leagues have a partnership with a gambling company, which in all five cases is designated as the “Official Betting Partner of the (League)”. They want those partnerships to continue, but they ask that the following steps be taken:
Leagues want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to promote betting on every round to their partners, have broadcasts encouraging fans to play the games as an “enhancing experience”, but don’t want any headaches on the back when some gamblers may have gambling addictions. because of Their support, they are upset.
When we get down to brass tacks, it’s easy: Everyone He was aware of the dangers of opening sports betting nationwide. Other countries have served as a litmus test for the dangers of sports betting. are there. all the time They are ordinary, occasionally scoundrels who can gamble responsibly, but thousands of people who fall into the hopeless pit of gambling addiction are risking their lives to support their addiction.
Other than being a strongly worded letter, there is no consequence in this statement – and this may be by design. These leagues can threaten support and branding from gambling companies, they can claim that statistics are not deleted in real time for live betting, they can refuse to take money from gambling companies – but we know that won’t happen. It’s all empty.
This is not a problem with the organization of leagues, but human nature. That does not absolve them of any responsibility. Abuse by angry consumers was always going to happen, and the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS all pretended they couldn’t believe their pearls happened.
