Pistons fans who responded to the survey conducted Hunter Patterson of the Athletics. considered president of basketball operations Troyan Langdon hasn’t done enough this offseason to make the team a title contender.
Of the 1,279 responses, 60.3% chose “No, they should have done more” regarding offseason moves. Only 20.3% chose “Yes, they have improved enough”, while the remaining 19.4% were indifferent.
A news flash for the restricted free agent Jalen Duren: Ausar Thompson in addition, received 67.6% of the votes for the second most valuable player Cade Cunningham. Duran won 27.9% of those votes.
When it comes to a reasonable salary for Duren, fan opinion is split, with 40.3% thinking he should be making $30-35 million per year, while 40% think he should be making $35-40 million. Only 5.8% percent believe it is worth more than that.
Here’s more on the Pistons:
- In an interview with By Coty M. Davis of the Detroit News (subscription required), Langdon considers a free agent acquisition John Collins will affect the team’s perimeter shooting and spacing. “One of the things we were looking for was more shooting from the floor in different positions, and he was one of those solutions.” Langdon said. “He’s been a really good shooter over the last few seasons, especially last season. I think he’s going to help our guys get more space. He’s versatile. He can play the four and some the five, obviously, a threat at the rim, a good rebounder or a good inside switch scorer. He brings another versatile piece to our team.”
- In the same story, Langdon said the team’s loss to Cleveland in the conference semifinals provided plenty of motivation for those who stayed. “I think I said in the press conference at the end of the season that it’s going to hurt a little bit. That pain has to drive and motivate. You have to be excited to work hard and come back the best version of yourself.” he said. “We saw it from our players. Dennis Jenkins was in the gym. Tolu (Smith) was in the gym. Paul (Reid) was in the gym. Ron (Holland II) must have been in the gym here in Detroit. He was finding places to play even when he was back home (Dallas). All of our young guys are coming back the best versions of themselves. We are excited and look forward to their next step in their development.”
- Along with the addition of Collins, the trades that led to the gains Isaiah Joe, Taurian prince and Gary Harris – along with the first round of selection Okorie shares — can make an offense that finished in the top 10 a year ago even better, Davis expresses an opinion. Davis notes that the Pistons have an offensive rating of 118.3 despite shooting just 31.3% from deep during the regular season, the second-lowest in the league. Davis also notes that they scored 10.2 points per 100 possessions during the regular season with their best perimeter shooter, Duncan Robinsonon the floor. With the added 3-point threats, the team should theoretically be even more dangerous on offense.
