Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage has warned his players to expect a tough test against Liverpool this weekend, branding the Reds a “crazy team”.
The Eagles head into the Premier League clash following their Europa League draw with Hoffenheim, in which they fought back despite Adam Wharton’s red card.
Sage praised his players for refusing to give up, but admitted Palace need to improve their game management after another game marred by disciplinary issues.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Sage admitted Palace could have done better but highlighted the importance of goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s saves.
“I think it could be better if we score earlier, but I also know Dean Henderson kept us in the game with his saves,” he said.
“I like the energy of the team and never giving up until the end. That goal came at a good time. Maybe we had one last chance to win the game.”
Palace were forced to reorganize after Wharton was sent off, leaving Sage to adjust their defensive set-up.
The Frenchman refused to criticize the referee’s decision but acknowledged the impact of losing such an important player.
“I never comment on the referee’s decision,” he added.
Attention now turns to Liverpool, who come into the weekend game looking to respond after back-to-back defeats.
Sage expects Andoni Iraola’s side to be particularly motivated to get back to winning ways and believes Palace must prepare carefully.
“First of all the recovery and we have to build the game plan because it’s a crazy team with very good players,” he said.
“They have lost their last two games. I think they will come with a lot of ambition and we have to deal with that.”
