Carlos Prates discusses his eight-fight UFC contract and retirement plans
In a recent interview, Prates addressed speculation about how much his new contract will pay per fight.
“It’s more (over $1 million per fight),” Prates said Fighters Weekly. “I’m really happy. I’m really happy.”
He then discussed how long he would fight. The 33-year-old insisted that winning UFC gold is his main goal and that he will retire when he no longer has the hunger to compete.
“I don’t know if I’m going to do all eight fights,” Prates added. “Or maybe two, three or one fight. I can’t say when I’m going to stop fighting. Maybe tomorrow, maybe I’ll stop after the next fight. I don’t know. I just like to live day by day, bro. I want to make money and beat everybody, be the champion and when I get tired of it, I’ll stop. So I’m addicted to winning and when I’m addicted to it. Win, I have to train every time I feel like I’m not can no longer be number one.
Prates (24-7) hoped to challenge Islam Makhachov (29-1) for the welterweight title in January 2027, but the champion is now looking to return after Ramadan next year. “The Nightmare” is now set to fight Michael Morales (19-0) to the interim title at UFC 336 Jan. 30 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
