September 10: OneSoccer has secured a share of Canada’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) rights through a new partnership with DAZN.
DAZN has held the rights in Canada since 2018/19, when it took them from TSN, and retained them in 2024 until the upcoming 2026/27 season.
OneSoccer, on air since 2019 with the launch of the Canadian Premier League, now gets a piece and will continue to show UEFA Women’s Champions League matches so fans can also follow the biggest stars of the CanWNT. The network already has the Canadian national teams, the CPL, the Canadian Championship, the Bundesliga, the US Women’s National Soccer League and the Concacaf competitions.
There is plenty of local interest to justify it. Eight Canadians are participating in this season’s UCL, led by captain Alphonso Davies, along with Atletico Madrid’s Jonathan David and a Villarreal trio of Tajon Buchanan, Tani Oluwaseyi and Nathan Saliba. A younger group, including Naël Kane, Kevin Khan and Bryan Ouanda, are looking for a breakthrough.
The Europa League adds more, with Alistair Johnston at Celtic, Derek Cornelius at Marseille and Daniel Jebbison at Bournemouth. There’s also an intriguing name in Zachary Zalewski, a 17-year-old Polish international eligible for Canada because of his Windsor, Ontario birth.
Notably, the Conference League rights were not mentioned in the announcement, although Canadians Promise David and Tom McGill’s Brighton featured.
For Canadian fans, it means more ways to see their players on Europe’s biggest stages, with a local broadcaster becoming more and more central. As the crop of Canadian talent in Europe grows, the appetite for such coverage only increases.
