Nuggets Notes: Gordon, DeRozan, Jokic, Preseason

The nuggets The 2026 playoff run ended disappointingly quickly, with the team losing in six games to the Timberwolves in the first round. One of the reasons the team couldn’t gain traction was the absence of a Swiss Army Knife forward, Aaron Gordon.

Gordon played just three games in that streak and only reached 30 minutes in one of them tight calves. It was a fitting end to an injury-riddled season in which he played just 33 regular-season games, but he said after a recent one-day camp that he feels good about next season.

I did a lot of soul searching (this offseason) and training I got my mind right and my body right” he said, according to DNVR Nuggets (Link to video on Twitter). “I’m ready to go.”

He also talked about why it was important to him to take the team out of their comfort zone during the Nuggets’ minicamp in Puerto Rico, as well as his reaction to leaving Peyton Watson.

This is my uncle but it’s deeper than basketball with Peyton and mehe said. Our families go to the same church, Peyton, and so does my brother. I am happy for him, for the situation in which he found himself. Of course we would have liked to have had one, but everything worked out the way it was supposed to. That’s how it should be.”

We have more notes from the Nuggets:

  • Denver hopes so newly signed a veteran DeMar DeRozan after several years of non-playoff basketball, he still has enough left to contribute to a contender. The 37-year-old has remained a solid and productive player as he’s aged and will likely continue to lead the Nuggets in scoring. Chris Dempsey writes for Demps and Circumstance. The team will need to surround him with a variety of high-level shooters to maximize his game-tying abilities, but despite the three-point and defensive concerns, he should be a strong opponent to be in the closing blocks, Dempsey wrote.
  • Nikola Jokic has been an NBA superstar for years, and he recently stated that he was sick of the celebrity that came with him, Randall Barnes writes for Clutch Points. “I am increasingly concerned about popularityJokic said recently. This is going to sound corny, but I become more rude to people who approach me. To be honest, it’s tiring… Some people around me know I don’t take pictures because it’s my time. I’m going to sound rude again, but what can I do? If people don’t understand me, I understand everything, but it’s been 11-12 years and that’s enough. I feel better when someone tells me something, like you come to the zoo and take a picture of something.” Jokic noted that he should not be seen as a role model Mark Kislo of the Denver Gazette does not contradict this statement, saying that his role and status make him an ambassador for basketball on the international stage. Kischla notes that Jokic appears to have become more reserved in his dealings with the media and American celebrity culture following the controversy surrounding the casual use of gay slurs during the 2018/19 season.
  • The Nuggets’ preseason will conclude on October 4 against the Jazz. According to him, there are three main things to pay attention to during the preparation for the season Vinnie Benedetto from the paper: as Gordon and Christian Brown are moving physically after battling injuries last year, who fills the backup point guard spot between them Tyus Jones, KJ Simpsonand DeRozan, and how the rookies are ready Trevon Brazile, Bryce Hopkinsand a 29-year-old Alpha Dial must enter the minutes when they are called.
