Head coach David Adelman said he hopes to Nuggets will add more ball possession to their roster Mayafter they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Instead of relying on external additions, they want Christian Brown to help Jamal Murray in this department, writes Vinny Benedetto of The Denver Gazette.
“It’s more about handling the pressure and getting into the set and making sure Jamal doesn’t always have to bring the ball, go to corners and then come back” said Brown.Jamal can start at corner. I can pick it up.”
Brown is in the first season of a five-year, $125 million rookie extension he signed last fall. He hopes to reward the team with a rebound season after an ankle injury limited the 25-year-old to 44 regular-season games in 2025/26.
“I have to be the guy where Jamal is looking for me to talk about it to help him” said Brown.I know it will help him and his legs in the fourth quarter of a big playoff game.”
We have more from Denver:
- The third year ahead Spencer Jones was held out of Friday’s scrimmage after tweaking his hamstring, Benedetto added in the same story. “It’s one of those little things that can be big, so you want to make sure you don’t let him downAdelman said.
- Ryan Nembhardwho signed a two-way contract with the Nuggets on Wednesday, had some of the best games of his basketball career at Ball Arena, according to Benedettowhich notes that the Canadian point guard led Creighton to a berth in the Sweet 16 of the 2023 NCAA Tournament with 30 points on 13 field goal attempts. Nembhard also torched the Nuggets in Denver last December when he had 28 points (on 12-of-14 shooting), 10 assists and three rebounds in 35 minutes as a Mavericks rookie. “I felt they wanted me“, Nembhardt said of the Nuggets. “It’s just a winning culture they have here. They proved that they can win. There are so many high IQ players that I can interact well with. Obviously a great coach, a great organization that I feel will benefit me.”
- In order for the Nuggets to reach their ceiling this season, they will need good performances from their upper and lower roster players, Nuggets insider Chris Dempsey writes on his blog Demps and Circumstance. According to Dempsey, referring to Alpha Dial as the team’s “most underrated” new addition.
- Former two-way player KJ Simpson was canceled on Wednesday to make room for Nembhardt. Forward Cameron Johnson will miss the former Colorado star. “Every time I was at the gym, KJ was at the gym. Every time I was in Denver in the gym, KJ was there. He played very well in training camp“, – said Johnson, translated Benedict. “That’s when business hits you hard. He joined us last year and was really bought in the whole time. It’s just a difficult part of business. It’s part of it, but it’s always hard to digest. I wish him all the best for the future in whatever opportunity he comes across.”
