Northwest Notes: SGA, Dosunmu, Kerr, Trail Blazers

Acting one-on-one MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander considers himself “the best player in the NBA.” Thunder said the superstar TIME’s Sean Gregory. When asked why he thinks so, Giljus-Alexander did not hesitate.

“I think the production I run night in and night out is the production of the best player in the NBA“, he said.”I think the efficiency with which I do it is the efficiency of the best player in the NBA. I think everyone picks up a basketball, football, soccer or tennis ball to win the game, the match, whatever it is. And I’ve had my fair share of wins over the past couple of years.”

In Gregory’s story, the Canadian guard enlisted Chris Paul as someone who influenced his rise to fame. Giljus-Alexander and Paul were teammates in SGA’s first season in Oklahoma City (2019/20).

“I used to eat terribly” said Giljus-Alexander, who firmly believes that Canadian McDonald’s is better than American McDonald’s, thank you very much.”The seriousness with which he approached things outside of the game, his diet, weight room, recovery, everything he did affected his performance. It opened my eyes.”

Here’s more from across the Northwest:

  • Giljus-Alexander, an All-NBA first-teamer each of the past four seasons, has acquired a minority stake in LaLiga soccer club Atletico Madrid press release. “I am very pleased to officially join the Atlético Madrid ownership group.” Thunder – said the guard. “This is a club that has long been at the top of European football and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of its future.” How ESPN’s Alex Kirkland notes that the American fund Apollo Global Management is the majority owner of Atlético Madrid from 2025.
  • After re-signing with Art Timberwolves on a five-year, $112 million contract, Ayo Dosunmu helped set the tone for the team during the offseason, training camp and preseason by becoming a leader and challenging Anthony Edwardsaccording to John Krawczynski of The Athletic. “Now I feel stable in terms of being in the organization, understanding offense and defense, so now I can be more vocal” said Dosunmu. “I just want to do whatever I can to help the team win. I want to do my best as a leader, holding each other accountable.”
  • There were sounds that were new Trail Blazers the owner Tom Dundon is using the threat of relocation to maximize the team’s leverage in negotiations with the city of Portland to redevelop the Moda Center. Warriors head coach Steve Kerrwho spent one season with the team at the end of his playing career, said it would be a “tragedy” if the Blazers ever left Portland, writes Jason Quick of The Athletic. “I mean, Seattle was a tragedy. I hope that after the debacle in Seattle, we as a league learned how important franchises are not only to communities, but to the history of the leagueKerr said.
