Andre Drummond, Nix“the new backup, a big man, doesn’t block shots as well Mitchell Robinsonwho signed a contract with the Celtics. But Drummond brings some other things to the table that he believes will help the Knicks win a second straight championship, he said James Edwards III of The Athletic.
“I was a master at what I do” Drummond said. “I can still shoot the ball at a high clip. Obviously, (I help) with adding 3-point shooting and being able to be a good defender. I’m also a great guy in the locker room. That’s what keeps me around.”
Drummond, who played for Philadelphia the past two seasons, signed one-year, veteran’s minimum contract at the start of free agency. He is entering his 15th NBA season.
“It’s the first time I’ve been the only new guy on the team,” he said. “It’s weird. It’s like an outcast trying to fit in. But the guys have been very welcoming.”
Here’s more on the New York teams:
- Networks forward Michael Porter Jr recently announced that he feels the team can win more than 50 games this season. Porter followed through on that prediction during the team’s media day. “Yeah, I mean the question was worded like he said, ‘Can you guys win 50 games?’ Of course I’m not going to say, ‘No, we can’t win 50 games.’ Porter said, trans Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “And I really believe that every night you have to go out on the floor with false confidence and fight to win. And I really think that we have the players that our goal every night should be to win. And we can win.” Porter’s sidekick Terrance Mann was even more determined to achieve that mark. “That’s the goal from day one. We said our goal is to get 50 wins.” said Mann. “So you’ve got to go in there with the mentality that we’re going to get 50 wins. And that’s thanks to guys with years of experience running it. Most of us have come from winning situations, so we know what it takes and that’s what we’re going to do.”
- Networks general manager Sean Marks has accumulated assets over the past few years through the trading market. Marks has no immediate plans to cash in on those star player assets, but that could change depending on how well his young roster develops. Lewis writes. “I’m not sure we’ll be more proactive than we’ve been in the past, but that doesn’t mean we’re not listening.” – said Marks. “That doesn’t mean we’re not shaking the trees and seeing what’s out there, for sure. So a lot will depend on how that list looks first, and we’ll get a good feeling that it’s pretty good.”
- Tyler Nickellbilateral agreement with Nix it’s a two-year contract for the 2027/28 season, Spotrac contributor Kate Smith tweets. Nickel signed his two-way deal on Sunday. As a Vanderbilt senior last season, the 6’7” wing averaged 13.5 ppg, 3.3 ppg and 1.2 ppg on .445/.400/.847 shooting in 36 games, all starts (30.6 mpg).
