Nets Notes: Minott, Wolf, Brown

Josh Minot was resigned to a two-year, $9 million contract this summer Networks. But he is by no means guaranteed a spot in the rotation, Brian Lewis of the New York Post writes.

“Josh, he put in a lot of work and effort over the summer and now in training camp, and I expect good things to happen.” coach Jordi Fernandez said. “The reality is usually you’re playing 9-11 players, and the good thing is that those guys are putting me in a tough spot because they’re all doing a great job. So I want to make the tough decisions as a coach.”

Brooklyn acquired Minott from Boston before last year’s trade deadline for cash settlements. He played in 16 games with Brooklyn, averaging 10.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 19.3 minutes per game. The 6’8″ forward spent his first three seasons in Minnesota.

“I would say one thing I’ve learned in my four years, going on five, you never settle.” Minot said. “I would never get complacent. You can never be complacent. I feel like that’s advice for everybody in any profession. … Always stay competitive. I mean, it’s a competitive job. Everybody knows that. So I’d say it’s more just being the guy that helps us reach our goal.”

Here’s more on the net:

  • Center Danny Wolf will play with braces on both ankles this season. He was sidelined on March 22nd during his rookie season with a sprained ankle. “I don’t really care what they look like as long as they do the job,” Wolf said to Lewis. “If you’re going to step on people’s feet, it’s inevitable, but … there’s a lot of things you can do with your lower body to reduce the length or severity of a sprained ankle. But a lot of guys wear braces on our team, around the league, and I think it’s going to become more and more normal.”
  • Mikel Brown Jr didn’t play in the Nets’ preseason game Tuesday, but the lottery pick is moving forward because of a sprained ankle, Lewis tweets Brown was cleared to make some contacts. “I’m back on the court and moving a lot better” he said. “Now I’m starting to get up to full speed, starting to get a little bit of contact from now on in practice … I’m (trusting) my performance staff to put me in a better situation.”
  • During the team’s annual Fan Fest on Sunday, Brown spoke to the crowd about his high expectations: Lewis relay. “My message is simple: 1) show up. Come to the game, pack everything because we need all the help we can get, all the love we can get for one.” – said Brown. “And then 2) I’m going to keep saying it, I feel like we’re going to shock the world. I really feel like we’re going to shock the world with this team and this group of guys that we have.”
