More Details On Keyonte George’s Extension With Jazz

Jazz security guard Keyonte George modified by five-year, $157.5 million beginner scale expansion on friday. The agreement, which has a base value of US$155 million and includes annual incentives of US$500,000, begins in 2027/28 and runs through 31/32. It does not include a player or team option.

According to Shreyas Ladda of The Salt Lake TribuneGeorge will earn approximately $28.7 million in the first season of the extension with annual raises of 4%, rather than the maximum 8% allowed. The Jazz wanted a somewhat flatter structure because the salary cap has risen 5-6% in recent seasons, Ladd explained.

It appears that incentives in George’s new contract would be considered unlikely at this point. A team source tells Laddha that George’s deal includes five different $100K bonuses, one tied to games played (65 regular season games; he played 54 last season) and the other four based on playoff wins.

Ladd also hears that George’s extension includes “a small bonus for protecting the team while he’s on the court,” though he wouldn’t specify the requirements or the value of the incentive.

The same team source told Ladd that Utah and George have been discussing an extension for months. The 22-year-old guard, who will make $6.56 million this season in the final year of his rookie contract, made the announcement at a press conference Saturday.

“Going through the process, I knew where I wanted to be– said George. All summer we were able to talk and come to an agreement. … I had no doubt about it; (there was) no resistance from anyone.

“This is my second family. I feel like Utah is my second family. So, signing here, expanding here, it was honestly a no-brainer.”

Ladd shared more details on why the Jazz felt comfortable making a major commitment to George, who had a stellar 2025-26 season, averaging 23.6 points, 6.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 54 games (33.1 minutes per game). The team will be hoping to raise the bar this season with an eye on their first play-off appearance since 21/22, adds Ladd.
