Nix security guard Miles McBride enters the final season of his contract, which will pay him just under $4 million through the 2026-27 season. He’s also eligible for an extension, but it looks like those talks didn’t go the way he’d hoped.
“I love being in New York. Obviously, I’ve been here my whole career” McBride said Christian Winfield of The New York Daily News. “I’m a little—I’m a little disappointed. Of course, you obviously want to come to the right conditions, and I want to be in New York. Yes, it’s a bit difficult at times, but I’ll be a pro. I want to go out and do my job. So it’s in my power to help the team win as long as I’m with the team.”
McBride is entering his sixth season with the Knicks after being selected 36th overall in the 2021 draft. Last season, he averaged 12.0 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 0.9 steals while shooting 41.3% from three-point range in 41 regular season games after missing several weeks with sports hernia surgery. The 26-year-old also appeared in all 19 of New York’s playoff games.
“Not only fast (Immanuel Quickley), but in the NBA you see it all the time (contract disputes leading to trades) and you just have to be professional. You don’t have to worry about these things” McBride said.I hope we will come to some kind of agreement. I played through the injury. I’ve been through a lot with this team and I’ve worked my way up to being a key guy. So, you know, I’d like to do something.”
McBride, who is considered strong trade candidate if he isn’t extended, indicated to Winfield that he believes he has untapped potential, noting that players are sometimes hammered into certain roles due to the makeup of their team’s roster.
“I feel like I was able to show a lot in those times when the guys were out” McBride said.So, opportunity is always important to me. I feel like I’ve continued to grow and improve every year.”
McBride will be eligible for an extension through June 30, 2027. However, multiple reporters expressed themselves skepticism of the deal reached because McBride is asking for a raise from his current team-friendly contract and the Knicks have future salary cap issues due to their high payroll.
