After his phenomenal final performance of the 2026 season, Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith stated the obvious.
“You just have to (notify) the Heisman voters or whoever it is I’m the best player in the country” Smith said, via ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg. “I’ve got to be there.”
In the Buckeyes’ 31-14 win over Iowa, Smith broke the Ohio State record for career receptions with 207 and career touchdowns with 36.
He also tied the program record with his 15th career 100-yard game.
In five games this season, Smith has 44 catches for 617 yards and nine touchdowns. Against the Hawkeyes (not the Hawks), Smith had 11 catches for 206 yards and two touchdowns.
Smith’s NIL deal certainly requires him to continue playing. However, as it relates to his NFL prospects, the hay is in the barn. He could stop playing now and still be a top pick in the 2027 draft.
