The Hornets have officially finalized a couple of minor roster changes by announcing (through Twitter) that they signed in advance Tre Carrollgiving up protection DJ Armstrong in the process to clear a 21-man offseason roster spot for a rookie.
Carroll, who spent his first three collegiate seasons at Florida Atlantic from 2022-25, transferred to Xavier for his senior year and put up big numbers for the Musketeers in 2025-26. In 32 games (all starts), the 6-foot-8 forward averaged 17.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 blocks per contest and posted a slash line of .501/.333/.709.
After earning AAC Most Improved Player honors as a junior, Carroll was named to the All-Big East First Team as a senior and took part in the Portsmouth Invitational in April. He went undrafted in June and then played twice for the Wizards’ Las Vegas Summer League team in July.
Charlotte’s deal with Carol, which almost certainly includes Exposure 10 languagewill likely build him up to become an affiliate player for the Hornets’ G League team. If Charlotte waives him and then spends at least 60 days in the Greensboro swarm, he will receive an Exhibit 10 bonus worth up to $91,000.
The Hornets have traded players on and off their roster in recent weeks in an effort to fill out the Swarm’s roster. From August 31 of this year Josiah Alik, Trey Townsend, Kyle Mangas, Yarkel the carpenter, Kobe Stewart, No Mbengoand Armstrong was briefly under contract with Charlotte. Most or all of those players plan to join Carroll in camp with the Swarm later this fall.
