Hornets security guard Kobe White suffered a sprained left calf during training camp and will be out for the entire preseason, according to the team (Twitter references).
Additional updates on the North Carolina native will be provided “as needed.”
White is the Hornets’ second projected starter — and the third rotation player — to suffer a preseason soft tissue injury. Mog Knueppel and Grant Williams both were injured hamstring injuries during offseason workouts and are expected to be reevaluated during the first week of the regular season.
White re-signed with the Hornets on a three-year, $74 million deal as an unrestricted free agent this summer. In February, the 26-year-old was traded from Chicago, where he spent his first six and a half years in the league, to Charlotte.
The former UNC guard dealt with shin strains in both legs last season, most notably the sprained right shin he suffered in August 2025. White was limited to 50 games in the 2025/26 season, a career low.
The Hornets were originally going to include three second-round picks in White’s package, but after a physical revealed a left shin injury that sidelined him for several more weeks, the two teams agreed to change the agreement to remove one of these selections. He missed six games in February with an ailing left calf.
Last season, White averaged 17.4 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 25.0 minutes per game. He hit .446/.362/.817.
In addition to White’s injury news, the Hornets also announced a two-way player Kaylan Boswell is dealing with a right knee injury. The former Illinois guard, who went undrafted in June, is expected to resume basketball activities before the NBA G League season in late October.
