The Heat officially signed a contract with a free agent, a forward Jan Schieffelin on Friday, the team announced in a press release. The terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, he reports last month revealed that Schieffelin will sign a non-guaranteed deal with Miami.
Schieffelin played four years of college basketball at Clemson from 2021-25, averaging 12.4 ppg, 9.4 ppg and 2.7 ppg on .495/.341/.741 shooting in 34 games (33.4 mpg) in 2024/25. He was persuaded by Dabo Swinney, a friend of Coach Heath Erik Spoelstra — tried football last season as a graduating senior and played eight games at tight end for the Tigers.
“This is a great happiness. I mean, not many people can really say they’ve done the same things I’ve done in the last yearSchieffelin said in July.It was just a blessing to be back in basketball and just the Heat organization taking a chance on me in the Summer League and just giving me an opportunity. It’s just a blessing to be here. This whole journey has been amazing.”
Schieffelin most recently played five games for the Heat in the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 8.4 ppg and 3.6 ppg on .467/.429/1000 shooting.
Several South Florida reporters, including Ira Winderman of The Sun Suntinel, noted that the Heat had struck an Annex 10 deal with Ezra Ausarwho came out of USC earlier this year and later played for the Miami Summer League team. Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald confirms that the Heat have reached a deal with Ausar, but that transaction is still pending.
Former Kansas wing Tre Whitewho impressed during summer league was also indicative Appendix 10 of the agreement with the Heat. However, he was recently granted a temporary suspension as he seeks to play a fifth college season and has been cleared to work out at Kansas, the men’s basketball program confirmed today (via Twitter).
The NCAA plans to appeal the decision, Jackson noted, but White has made it clear his priority is to return to college if he can.
The Heat declined to add Gabe Vincent to the list of their camp, according to Jackson, who supposes D’Angelo Russell and Ryan Nembhard also unlikely targets for Miami. Russell was refused Memphis on Friday, while Nembhardt is expected to be shortened by Charlotte.
