Ryan Garcia retained his WBC lightweight title last Saturday night (Sept. 12, 2026) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Conor Benndemolishing him in the second round with a wild knockout (see it again here).
Days after his impressive performance, Garcia revealed that he hurt his hand the next day, but it wasn’t because of his vicious punches to “The Destroyer.” During a recent performance Exhibition by Ariel HelwanGarcia reported hurting his right hand (the one that shot Benn) after he got into a fight with one of his friends in a hotel room.
“I hurt my hand more – fighting somebody on Sunday night. Hobi wanted to do the job, I still had energy, so I said let’s do it,” Ryan said, showing off his bruised knuckles. “We just started fighting in the room. He wanted the job, so I gave it to him, a chew doll. He wanted a smoke, an easy job.”
I’ve gotten into fights with “homies” in my life, but none of them are world champion boxers, so there’s that.
Ryan didn’t go into specifics, but did reveal that his friend isn’t a professional boxer, so it wasn’t a surprise that he made light work of it. Then again, publicly claiming that he beat up his friend in a hotel room is probably not the smartest thing to do to avoid further legal issues. But if he’s a real “homie” and if this was nothing more than some playful sparring, Garcia probably has nothing to worry about.
As far as what could be next for Garcia In a sanctioned pro fight, he targets a fight against the king of the WBA super lightweight division, Teofimo Lopezwhich would be another great matchup to help “King Ry” cement himself as the face of boxing should he be victorious.
