The Hawks gave up 132 points to the Grizzlies on Monday and Coach Quinn Snyder was not satisfied with the game of his team, according to the words Lauren Williams of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
“We have to know who we are, what it all comes down to, and that’s collective defense, running, moving the ball and collective scoring.” Snyder said. “It doesn’t mean the guys aren’t playing. We know who our playmakers are, but on both ends we didn’t feel like a team. That’s how I felt, and we know we were and we will be. That’s important to know, too.”
First round pick Kingston Flemings got the chance to start. He has 11 points, two assists and three turnovers in 25 minutes.
“He’s been competing, seeing some really good things in space, knocking down shots, rebounding, playing defense, finding people to pass the ball to when he’s getting the lead and there’s other things that a 19-year-old rookie, you know, you expect to see an opportunity to grow.” Snyder said.
Here’s more from the Eastern Conference:
- Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports hears a lot of positive things about the new magic coach Sean Sweeney but can it get more out of this group than its predecessor Jamal Mosley? O’Connor notes that Sweeney inherited the same staff that Mosley coached and was president of basketball Jeff Veltman built. Sweeney will need to figure out how to improve an offense filled with shaky shooters.
- Jabari Walker does not have a fully guaranteed contract with Sixers — he owes a partial guarantee of $250,000 — but he hasn’t done anything to hurt his chances of making the opening night lineup or even getting a spot in the rotation, Kyle Neubeck of Allphly.com writes. The backup forward hit three 3-pointers against the Knicks on Monday with a release that looked noticeably quicker than a year ago. He also had 11 rebounds in just over 19 minutes of action.
- Look for a second course Predators forward Colin Murray-Boyles to get more playing time this season, Josh Levenberg of TSN Sports tweets. Murray-Boyles will get more than just backup minutes at the “5” spot. “He is so good and has improved so much that he has to share the court with (Jacob Poeltl)” coach Darko Rayakovich said. Rajakovic, answering a question about his second unit, said that he trusts CMB, Jamal Shed, I’m Kobe Walter and Jamison BattleLevenberg adds another tweet. “We know what to expect from them” – said the coach.
