Celtics Note: Carter, Pritchard, Tatum, Brown

Pa Eli Cohen | on October 28, 2026 at 7:59 p.m

Devin Carter rejoined the Celtics Bobby Manning reports for CLNS Media after a bout of mononucleosis sidelined him for the start of the season (via Twitter).

While Carter has been able to be part of the locker room again and spend time with his teammates, he is still unavailable as he finishes recovering from an illness.

The Celtics selected the 24-year-old former Lottery pick on an Annex 10 contract, who later transformed to a two-way deal ahead of the season opener. The defense-minded guard was originally selected by the Kings 13th overall in the 2024 draft, but has struggled to find a spot in the rotation due to injuries and an inconsistent offense.

We have more from the Celtics:

  • Peyton Pritchard became a Celtics favorite among fans, teammates and members of the front office during his seven seasons in Boston. He also received an unexpected title, according to ESPN’s Hallie Grossman: iso king command. The 6-foot-1 guard led the NBA in field goal percentage in isolation situations last season thanks to the countless hours of intense offseason work he put into perfecting his craft. For his efforts, he was recognized as one of the greatest isolation scorers the NBA has ever seen when Allen Iverson called him “the coldest white boy I ever saw.” With the departure of Jaylen Brownhis isolation prowess is more important to the team than ever as the Celtics have fewer ball handlers to switch to the three-point hunting style that has made them so cool in the regular season the last few years.
  • Jason Tatum has been through a lot of basketball turmoil since tearing his Achilles during the 2025 playoffs, but he sealed his comeback with an overtime win against the Nets on Tuesday, Jay King writes for The Athletic (subscriber link). He did not shy away from the feelings that came after the play. “It felt like hell just getting back to what I was doing before the injuryTatum said. And sharing that moment with my teammates on the court, seeing them rally and cheering for me.” It was Tatum’s first 40-point game since the injury and the most minutes (42) he’s played in that span. “It’s been 18 months since I tore my AchillesTatum said. And there are certain moments during the game, during the game and off the ball, when I make a cut, or a blast, or just do something that something clicks in my head, and it’s like, “Oh, you know, this feeling is really starting to feel, you know, pre-injury.” And the results, hit or miss, I get real excited about some of the moves I make throughout the game.”
  • Jaylen Brown is no longer with the Celtics, but he remains the subject of much debate. Recent speculation about whether Brown demanded a trade from the team (demand his representation refused) and postgame comments continue to fuel controversy over the separation of two stars who have achieved so much success together. Brown’s comments, in which he said, “There’s no beef, but it might be small lamb chops and gravy,” caused confusion around the league, Chris Mannix writes for Sports Illustratedbut the reasons for the disagreements are easy enough to determine, according to Mannix.
