Northwest Notes: Edwards, Holiday, DeRozan, Brazile

News that Anthony Edwards will be needed knee surgery was a blow to Art Timberwolveswhich got off to a hot start in Lamela’s ball/The Edwardian era.

Team president Tim Connelly after an MRI on Edwards’ knee confirmed that the surgery was not related to the meniscus, but was a “clean-up” procedure. John Krawczynski writes for The Athletic.

“Yesterday’s image showed a problem that we want to solve quickly“, Connelly said. “Our only concern is his long-term health.”

Edwards has been dealing with knee issues since last season’s postseason, and he and the team decided rest was the best approach this offseason, but after the season opener against Miami, where he scored 45 points, Edwards again dealt with knee discomfort. He is expected to miss at least two months with the injury.

“It’s not something we care about in the long run” Connelly added, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater (Link to video on Twitter).

We have more from the Northwest Division:

  • Jrue’s holiday not in a role that is likely to appear in major storylines this season as Trail Blazers move forward with your starting backcourt Ja Morant and Damian Lillardbut he still has an important role to play on the bench, Mark Medina writes in Holiday’s interview for Fadeaway World. “I feel like I’m a complete player. Therefore, I can adapt to everything“, Holliday said.”But we have a great lineup of guys and a great coaching staff. They were very, very clear about what they wanted from us. I feel like it plays to my strengths with the roles that they are for me. So that was great.” The Blazers are off to a great start, and their depth has been a big part of their success.
  • Holiday isn’t the only veteran still dealing with the changes that have come since he became a backup player. DeMar DeRozan coming off the bench for the first time in his career in his first year with Nuggetsand on Monday, he turned in his best showing of the young season, scoring 21 points on 15 shots. He still feels things Vinny Benedetto writes for the Denver Gazettebut he is beginning to master the new role. “I’m just trying to understand as quickly as possible and understand everything, understand how I can help, especially going into the game, reading the game flow“, DeRozan said.”I’m just trying to make an impact on the game… These guys get so much attention. They make it easier for me. I try to do the same when I have the ball. Everything they do makes my job easier and vice versa. Every time I play with these guys, I just try to make everything on the floor as easy as possible. It will continue to improve.“
  • Another player is quickly becoming a key backup for Nuggets is a rookie forward Trevon Brazile, Benedetto writes. He’s still learning the ins and outs of the Nuggets’ system, but has quickly shown that his athleticism applies to both ends of the floor. Brazil brought the energy on the glass and as a cutter that Denver needs, and looked like Nuggets legend Marcus Camby at times. Chris Dempsey writes for Demps And Circumstance. with Cameron Johnson Brazile started at small forward on Wednesday, highlighting the versatility he brings to the Nuggets bench.
