Bucks Sign Johni Broome | Hoops Rumors

Less than two weeks after being refused Clippers, second year ahead of John Broome signed with Bucksteam announced today in a press release.

Broome, who turned 24 in September, was the 35th pick in the 2025 draft. As a rookie, he played in just 11 NBA games for the Sixers, playing a total of 55 minutes, recording 10 points and 16 rebounds on 4-of-24 shooting from the floor. The former Auburn standout spent most of his rookie season with the Delaware Blue Coats of the G League, appearing in 26 games for the Philadelphia affiliate.

Broome averaged 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.5 blocks in 32.8 minutes for Delaware, though his NBAGL season ended early when he survived partial meniscectomy at the end of February to repair a tear in the lateral meniscus in my right knee. He returned to action in the NBA playoffs, playing some significant minutes in a pair of blowout losses to the Knicks in the second round.

With the Sixers facing a capital shortage this summer, Broome was traded to Los Angeles along with a second-round pick in a cost-cutting effort, then waived by the Clippers, who remain on the hook for his $2.15 million fully guaranteed salary through 2026-27.

It seems safe to assume Broome’s deal with the Bucks isn’t guaranteed. If it includes Exhibition 10 language, it could be turned into a two-way deal by opening night. For what it’s worth, Milwaukee does have an open two-way slot.

The Bucks may also make Broome a member partner player for their G League team if he waives it before the regular season begins. In that case, he will be eligible for a bonus of up to $91,000 on top of his standard NBAGL salary if he spends at least 60 days with the Wisconsin Herd.

Here are some more minor NBA transactions from Tuesday morning:

  • In order to make room on their 21-man pre-season roster for Broome, the Bucks – the big man refused John Butler younger, according to the team. Butler, who played for the Milwaukee Summer League team in July, is expected to join the Herd this fall. He was on an Exhibit 10 contract that included a full bonus of $91K.
  • The Thunder refused protection Robert McCrae Wthe team announced today. The word broke back in June that McCray agreed to a Supplement 10 deal with the Lakers, but that deal never went through and the undrafted rookie ended up signing Appendix 10 contract with Oklahoma City instead. He plans to become an OKC Blue affiliate this fall and will receive a $91,000 bonus if he spends at least 60 days with the club.
