Bruce Brown appeared in all 82 games with the Nuggets last season. So he was surprised by the lack of interest in free will.
Veteran wing had to calculate for unguaranteed Exhibition 9 contract with Art Nix and fight for a spot on the roster. Brown cites teams’ concern with the second apron as one of the reasons for not getting a better offer.
“I was really surprised. I played every game last year, played significant minutes all year,” Brown said, trans Stefan Bondi of the New York Post. “I thought I was doing the part I was given decently or well enough. But when free will started, that wasn’t the case.”
Speculation that the Knicks will keep the big man with their 14th overall pick doesn’t help his cause.
“You’ve got to prove yourself every year. I’ve been on eight teams in nine years. Every year you’ve got to prove yourself, prove you’ve gotten better.” – said Brown. “But with this team, obviously the first and second units are pretty set up, I would say. So obviously I would have to provide a winning attitude. I’m fighting for a job right now. So whatever role they give me, I’d be happy to fill it.”
